Data retention and deletion
Legal Eagle keeps your data for as long as your account is active and you continue to use the service, and it gives you a way to delete your account and the data tied to it. This page summarises what is retained and how deletion works; the authoritative, always-current process is the account-deletion page on the application site, which this documentation defers to.
What is retained, and for how long
While your account is active, the platform retains the records you create so the service can function: your account identity, your bookings and help requests, your cases and hearings (firm clients), your contacts and notes (lawyers), and your preferences. These persist because removing them would break the feature that depends on them — a case history is only useful while it is kept. Product analytics events are retained in the analytics platforms (Amplitude, Microsoft Clarity, Firebase web analytics) under each provider's own retention window.
Some records are retained for integrity or legal reasons beyond a casual delete. Where the firm has an engagement with a client, matter records may be retained to meet the firm's professional and recordkeeping obligations; the firm's terms govern that. This documentation describes the software's behaviour and is not itself legal advice.
AI-assistant interactions
Answers generated by the AI assistant are logged to a training-capture record with personal identifiers redacted, used to improve the assistant. This retention is consent-based: it defaults to on under the terms gate, and you can opt out at onboarding or from your dashboard. Opting out stops your future interactions being used for model improvement. Data the platform receives through Google APIs is held under Google's Limited Use rules and is never used to train models, regardless of the assistant consent setting.
How to delete your account and data
Account and data deletion runs through the in-app flow reachable from your profile and from the public account-deletion page. The page lists the exact steps and what is removed. Deletion removes your account identity and the personal records tied to it; some derived or obligation-bound records (for example an active legal matter the firm must retain, or redacted analytics already aggregated by a third-party provider) may persist as described on that page and in the privacy policy. If you cannot complete the in-app flow, you can request deletion by emailing aoneahsan@gmail.com.
What this does NOT do
The platform does not retain your data indefinitely against your wishes — an account-deletion path is provided and honoured. It does not keep AI-assistant interactions for model improvement after you opt out. And it does not silently widen retention: any record kept beyond account deletion is named on the account-deletion and privacy pages, not hidden. The summary here never overrides those authoritative pages.
